I promise, I'm not dead

It's been a while. Like 3 years a while. I promise I didn't die in that time frame. I am not writing to you from beyond the grave.

It's been a roller coaster the last few years. I left TCC, delved into my photo work some more, went back to school and am back with shiny new degree in programming and web design. WHUUUUT.

What the hell is a photographer doing going to school for programming? Well, this website is what spurred it. I got mad I couldn't make it better, so I wanted to learn how. Clearly, a degree was the best way to do that. Go big or go home, right?

So. Here I am. And now we're shifting the focus of my work to what I discovered was a fantastic meld of all my passions and skills- UX/UI design. I really enjoy making useful, beautiful things. The early 20th century had it right in that aspect, where the Art Nouveau, Art Deco, and Arts and Crafts movements integrated art and design with life. We have a perfect opportunity to do that now with the digital world. We're so immersed in the digital sphere now that we need to come up with ways to make it intuitive, useful and PRETTY.

I'm going to be trying to chronicle the projects I"m working on. It's great seeing a finished product, but sometimes seeing the journey is important, too. I really like looking back on past work going OMG THAT IS TERRIBLE WHO TOLD ME THAT WAS OK, identifying what I could have done better, then integrating that knowledge into my own work. Also, I'm suuuuuuper wordy, so trying to fit that into a resume? Not gonna happen. I guess this is Dorothy's Resume, Supplement A.

In the interest of letting you know what you're going to see, here's the list:

- A complete redesign of THIS site because holy hell, it needs it

- My redesign of author Doug Robertson's website. The current plan is to maintain it in Blogger so he can keep his SEO and all the work he's put into writing it. I think I'm going to go with a BootStrap shell to pretty it up.

- A new website for Tina Rivets, cosplayer extraordinaire. She doesn't have one yet, so this is a ground up project

- The ongoing redesign of the 9 Tap Tour application. Ken and the next class are going to start a refactor, so it makes sense to have the UX reworked before they do that. Hopefully we can clean some things up and make it look better.

That's it for now, folks. Come back, see where I am, give me feedback. You know I love it. I survived Larry Gawel's critiques.
